Esper Bionics Automation with Odoo ERP – ToDo Case Study

About the customer

Esper Bionics is a company specializing in the development of high-tech bionic prostheses for people who have lost limbs.

Its flagship product is the Esper Hand, a bionic prosthetic hand that uses artificial intelligence to improve control and predict the user's movements.

The prosthesis allows for complex tasks such as slicing an apple or applying makeup, and adapts to the user's individual needs, making it more comfortable compared to traditional prostheses.

The company is also developing Esper Control, a non-invasive brain-computer interface, and Esper Platform, a cloud-based platform for customizing prosthetics for a specific user.

Esper Bionics has also been recognized for its product design — the Esper Hand received the Best of the Best Award 2022 at the Red Dot competition.

Why did Esper Bionics choose Odoo?

Esper Bionics was looking for a solution for comprehensive automation of its business that would combine high-quality data protection protocols and the ability to flexibly configure the software for itself. Based on the results of the research, the customer's team found everything they needed in Odoo.

EsperBionics also noted that their choice of Odoo was influenced by the fact that it easily integrates with other platforms thanks to its open-source code and the presence of large companies among the customers of the Belgian software, which speaks of trust in this software.

Who initiated the automation process?

In the words of the customer: “Our entire company, it was a collective decision. We are currently a startup, still in the process of growth, and in order for this process to happen faster and more comfortably, we needed automation.

We needed a solution that would help us remove the human factor in our work as much as possible. It is also worth noting that before switching to Odoo, we used tools like Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc. in our work, which goes against the concept of automation."

What tasks did EsperBionics plan to solve using automation?

In the words of the customer: “First of all, there was the issue of eliminating the human factor as much as possible. In addition, we did not like the fact that the company's operational activities were conducted in Google/Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, etc.

The task was to comprehensively automate and digitalize the business: task management, planning, and unifying all our departments in one space where we could work and communicate seamlessly.

I would like to separately note that thanks to Odoo, we now have fast communication, because we don't need to provide new access, we don't need to go through 10 links to get the information we need."

What business processes did we automate at Esper Bionics thanks to Odoo?

At the moment, the implementation is still ongoing, so we can only report on interim results:

1) We automated communications between departments related to production;

2) We automated the movement of goods and materials within the company, and the distribution of tasks;

3) We automated accounting: we connected integration with BAS;

Are the results of automation tangible?

In the words of the customer: “Yes, absolutely. We reduced the time spent on creating and executing tasks by automating the movement of goods and materials within the company. Internal communication also accelerated, because everything is in one system.”

Are there any specific Odoo features that you can highlight as the most useful for your business?

In the words of the customer: “It will be difficult to single out something, because we liked Odoo precisely for its complexity, I think this is its main advantage.”

Did you encounter any internal issues during automation?

In the words of the customer: “Of course, there was some minor discomfort when switching to the new system, but, in my opinion, this cannot be avoided, because the transition to something new is almost always accompanied by certain difficulties.

However, since our entire team understood the need to switch to Odoo, we went through this adaptation period quite easily. We turned all the problems and difficulties that arose on our way into tasks and gradually solved them.

The most interesting thing I can highlight is the need to modify the BP: somewhere we edited them on our side, and somewhere we corrected them in Odoo.”

Interim results of cooperation

Based on ERP Odoo, we automated a number of processes for the customer: communication between departments related to production; movement of goods and materials within the company; task distribution; accounting.

We are confident that after the implementation project is completed, we will share with you more significant results, with all the details and figures, but more on that later...
